To be ready for this class:
Watch this video for a guided tour.
- Type your text from DAY 1 into a WORD 365 document and then share it with me. Here's how to do that.
- Do Part 1 of Theme 1 (Be sure to click on all the links in there and not to rush through it).
- Add new words from the video and article in Part 1 to your Vocabulary Table
[spacer size="10"]
- Work on 1 & 2 above about 20 minutes a day instead of all at once. Spread it out and you'll see progress. (When we do it all at once for two or three hours in a row we tend to forget by the next week.)
- You may want to print some documents for class. If you want a further headstart on Class 2, see "What we'll do" below.
What we'll do
Speaking to warm up (10 minutes):
- Learn some polite phrasings.
- Quiz a partner, politely, about the new words in their Vocabulary Table.
Verb form for sharing knowledge (15 minutes):
- Learn the form.
- Use it to find out about each other's sleep habits.
Learn the standard way for taking helpful notes (30 minutes):
- Take some time to learn how.
- Practice note-taking together with the help of this document.
- Try it solo.
- Using our notes, talk about the video and article again from Part 1 of Theme 1.
Documents to print for class
You'll need the following documents for class. You may want to print them instead of using your phone, tablet or laptop. It's up to you:
- your Vocabulary Table
- the article "School can wait: What happened when Seattle let its high schoolers sleep in"
- this worksheet for note-taking practice on the Sleep video and articles
